On January 28, 2022, Hawaii PODcaster, JAMES LOGUE, host of the weekly PODcast, "The Real Talk Experiment," featured P. GREGORY "Greg" FREY, our Foundation's Founder & Board President, on his ever popular show.  This PODcast & it's visionary PODcaster is quite different from your "garden variety" show.  It tries in earnest to shy away from the conventional.  It's NOT an interview format.  It's NOT a "Q&A."  Rather, it more like a true "fireside chat."  Here in the 808 Island State of Hawaii, we'd call it a "Talk Story."  

Our website allows all our donors & supporters & friends to know everything there is to know about LtCol GRANT V. FREY, USMC (Ret.).  Isn't that the point & purpose of this informative website in the first place? The coordination and planning it took to get GRANT's modest collection of motorcycles & car to auction was "choke" (IF you understand "local kine talk" which is the norm in GRANT's 808 Island State). After tons of work, and more help than can ever be fully acknowledged (especially from our MO local knowledge Director, TERRI MILLER [See, Page 5, "Meet Our Foundation 'Ohana], & from so many others in & around the quaint WAYNESVILLE & SAINT ROBERT MO communities), the MECUM KANSAS CITY 2021 auction went pretty well, and a few dollars were generated for GRANT's Estate (still pending in MO).  Notwithstanding that NO monies were generated for our modest Foundation (See, "Note" below), the auction was a fitting & emotional journey as we all said ALOHA to "The Grant V. Frey Collection" (as it was billed & promoted in the auction catalog & on-line, thanks to the graciousness & generosity of DANA MECUM ["Fun Fact"  even as the very famed founder of MECUM AUTO AUCTIONS, DANA was always very kind & nice to both GRANT & his brother GREG whenever they attended one of these very popular auctions.  DANA ofttimes referred to them as "The HAWAII Boys").

One of our Foundation's most dedicated BOARD MEMBERS, BRYAN PETTY (See, Page 5, "Meet Our Foundation 'Ohana"), coordinated and staged a Fundraiser for SeMPer Frey, Inc.  -----  THE very FIRST Foundation Fundraiser!  -----  as part of his active CROSSFIT lifestyle. Members of the CrossFit community REALLY supported BRYAN's idea, and at the same time honored and paid tribute to GRANT, the USMC / Military & the Law Enforcement communities.

As said, CrossFit crowds in impressive numbers REALLY supported this unique  fundraiser, and the selfless and dedicated owner of the CrossFit facility intends to work with BRYAN to hopefully make this an annual (or maybe semi-annual) event in GRANT's Honor.

A true "win-win" event. Crazy CrossFit workouts for all who participated to help raise money, and DONATION MONEY for our charitable organization.

Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club (BK LEMC), California Chapter VI (San Diego), launched its FIRST EVER Memorial Poker Run 2023 to honor & pay tribute to its Former Chapter President, LtCol GRANT V. FREY, USMC (Ret.).  Despite the impending FIRST Hurricane to "hit land" in this SO CAL area in over 100-years ("scheduled" to hit the very day of the poker run!), supporters & friends braved the conditions.  The Poker Run was a HUGE success.  Beyond expectations. This no doubt persuaded the dedicated & hardworking leadership of CA VI to decide to hold a SECOND ANNUAL Memorial Poker Run, again in GRANT's honor, in 2024 (See, below, next section, far left column).

The Backstory aka "The 4-1-1"

Those of you who have not only enjoyed but have carefully read each page & every section of this informative albeit emotional Website no doubt know that its Founder & President, P. GREGORY "Greg" FREY (aka & in fact better known as GRANT's [twin] brother), was a dedicated 4-year player & member of the SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY rugby team, known to all "way back then" (as it is now almost 40 years later) as the Santa Clara University Touring Side ("SCUTS").  GREG and his teammates played all the best teams in the country, and traveled the world, to include to England, the Bahamas & Ireland to play a tough game they all played well (as a team!).  The SCUTS never backed-down from any team, and played the likes of West Point, The Navel Academy, Stanford & perennial National Champions, CAL BERKLEY.  The SCUTS ranked in the top 10 or so in the Country almost every year.  In GREG's Senior year (1982-1983), the SCUTS '83 earned the best record in team history @ 25-2; a record which stands strong & unbroken to this very day, and this sensational feat was a significant & primary factor which led to the decision to induct the 1983 SCUTS (as a team, not any individual player no matter how talented & gifted) to the SANTA CLARA Rugby Hall of Fame in 2018.  All those years later, EVERY living teammate returned to SCU for the 2018 induction ceremony except ONE (one other, honored posthumously, was unfortunately taken too soon by cancer [RIP, HAZ]) (#FU_K Cancer)(#FU_K COVID-19).  The SCUTS '83 team, and every teammate on it (now each a "HOFer"), has remained supportive of the program and of each other for over FOUR decades!!!  Each former teammate has gone on to "bigger & better" things in life, but not one of them has every forgotten the other or the team, and this is certainly true right here & now.

GRIEF, SADNESS & DISPAIR are certainly deep seated, and ofttimes very difficult to overcome.  Many of us who have dedicated ourselves to this Website & to the hope and wish that this modest 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation will prosper & succeed going forward have these types of tough and challenging feelings & emotions from time-to-time (IF NOT "all the time" for some of us?!?) .  It's quite normal and something not to be afraid to try to deal with, BUT certainly any help at all is welcome & greatly appreciated. 

THAT'S WHERE ONE OF GREG'S FELLOW HOF SCUTS TEAMMATES COMES IN; to the rescue if you will.....Let us all say, ALOHA to MR. PETER PAVLINA.  His professional life & his world & his literal reason for being is to show folks the way. To show folks true Happiness. To show folks the path to success.  As one of the true star players on the SCUTS '83 team, Peter is & always has been entirely devoted to his SCUTS teammates & therefore to GREG, PETER reached out recently to share a few "Recipes to and for Happiness."  While the original audience for these keen words of insight & professional wisdom are in fact for "folks over 50" (years of age), the teachings & thoughts & ideas & suggestions are in fact just as relevant and just as helpful to each of us as to the "originally intended audience".  Stated a bit more simply & directly, GREG literally "hung on every word" as he worked through Peter's offering, and this "life plan" of sorts really helped.  So Peter's talents & skills & experience  are shared here, and our modest 501(c)(3) Foundation hopes these thoughts & writings might be as helpful to each of you as they have been to GREG & his 'Ohana ("family").  ENJOY & read on (& of course, "hit the links").
